Meet Demi
A registered Specialist
Wellness Counselor (ASCHP)

Supporting your journey to balance and wellbeing.

I believe that everyone deserves a safe and supportive space to be heard, understood, and guided with compassion. My counselling approach is person-centred and non-judgmental, creating an environment where adults and adolescents alike can reflect, grow, and find clarity.

Counselling offers a chance to pause and explore — whether you’re working through a challenging season, building resilience, or seeking greater balance in your life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering care and practical tools to support your journey toward healing and wellbeing.

More About Demi

I’m Demi Chernotsky, a registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor and founder of The Wellness Corner, my private practice dedicated to supporting individuals in their journey toward mental and emotional wellness.

After earning my Honours degree in Psychology, I began working in a Psychiatric suite at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, under the supervision of two Clinical Psychologists. This experience has been invaluable in shaping my therapeutic approach and understanding of private practice. I’ve also had the opportunity to facilitate group therapy for clinical in-patients, further enriching my perspective and deepening my clinical insight.

Starting my own practice has long been a dream inspired by my commitment to providing accessible, meaningful care within my community. I’m particularly passionate about psychoeducation and helping people gain a deeper understanding of their mental and emotional experiences. My goal is to empower individuals to reach their full potential through greater self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Currently, I work with both adolescents and adults, supporting them through a variety of emotional, psychological, and wellness challenges.

Professional Standards

I follow the ASCHP Code of Ethics, work within a clear scope of practice, and respect your confidentiality in line with the POPI Act.

*Please note: I do not diagnose mental health conditions, and counselling is not a replacement for medical or psychiatric care. When specialised support is required, I collaborate with trusted professionals and can provide referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists, or medical doctors.

Having worked in private practice within a multidisciplinary team, I understand the importance of collaboration and containment, and I value building strong networks of support around my clients.

If you're uncertain whether counselling is the right path for you, I invite you to reach out. Together, we can explore your needs, clarify your goals, and determine the most supportive way forward.

The role of counselling

People come to counselling for many reasons — from navigating life transitions to building emotional skills or finding clarity. I support adults and adolescents with:

Emotional Well-being: stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, anger management, and emotion regulation

Life Changes: grief and loss, relationship difficulties, family or career transitions

Personal Growth: self-esteem, confidence, meaning, purpose, and building healthier habits

Behavioural & Lifestyle Challenges: addiction, unhealthy patterns, and coping mechanisms

Psychoeducation: learning practical skills and strategies for understanding emotions, building resilience, improving communication, and managing stress and anxiety

Mind–Body Tools: breathwork and simple techniques to calm anxiety and restore balance

Crisis Intervention: immediate, short-term support to reduce danger or acute distress, such as panic attacks, overwhelming grief, suicidal thoughts, or emotional breakdowns

Containment: an ongoing therapeutic process of creating safety, stability, and boundaries for emotions, so the client can manage them gradually. Containment is often useful when individuals are awaiting medical intervention and helps with grounding during this time.
